FAME foundation was established to solicit, encourage and advance the social, emotional and economic wellbeing of women and girls as well as formulate programmes within the framework of national development plan with a view to enhancing the participation of women and advocate for gender parity in the society.
FAME foundation firmly believe that the entire nation, businesses, communities and groups can benefit from the implementation of programs and policies that adopt the notion of women empowerment.
FAME Foundation, in conjunction with Bell’s Echo Initiative hosted a Women’s Football Tournament to mark the 2019 International Women’s Day (IWD).
The match which was held at the FIFA Goal Project, Package B of the Abuja National Stadium, was aimed at promoting gender parity, highlighting important roles women play in the society, and recognising the impact of women in everyday life.
The event which was tagged “Football Match for Better Balance” recorded large turnout by members of the public and stakeholders across different fora. The five teams that participated in the competition were: Team FAME, Team All-Stars, Team Freedom (UK/US Embassy), Team NUT (Nigerians Union of Teachers), and Team NUJ (Nigerian Union of Journalists).
The event convener, Mrs. Aderonke Bello, while addressing newsmen at the event, said the proceeds realised from the match would be designated towards the girl-child education in form of scholarships for better and more competitive future and facilitation of independence of women in the rural communities through skills acquisition, empowerment and workshops.
The competition was organised in partnership with Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), NRSC, UN Women, McArthur Foundation and The Nigerian Army.
