FAME foundation was established to solicit, encourage and advance the social, emotional and economic wellbeing of women and girls as well as formulate programmes within the framework of national development plan with a view to enhancing the participation of women and advocate for gender parity in the society.
FAME foundation firmly believe that the entire nation, businesses, communities and groups can benefit from the implementation of programs and policies that adopt the notion of women empowerment.
FAME and its Volunteers set out on a women and girls empowerment outreach at Utako village, close to Utako primary school within the FCT on the 11, July 2020 by 8:30 am.
The Utako outreach program is one of the event under FAME Empowerment Project which is set out to empower rural women and girls by provided them with information and knowledge not within their reach and also empowering them with skill sets which they can use to better their living and communities.
The objective of this outreach program is to gain access into the rural areas within the FCT to empower and educate women and girls of the locality through talk sessions, interactions and trainings.
Speakers were invited to talk to the women on various topics as a means to enlightening them and being a rural area, a Hausa translator was needed for effective communication.
The talk session comprised of four speakers with each having 10 minutes to relay their message.
First Session: Dinah Iman, the first speaker educated the rural women and girls on the concept of rape, its dangers and how to avoid being raped. She further encouraged girls to speak out and seek for help when needed.
Second Session: Conducted by Swat Teku, who educated women and girls on personal hygiene and its importance especially with the Covid-19 global pandemic. She emphasized on the importance of regular washing of hands for the duration of 20 seconds and keeping a 1m distance away from another individual.
Third Session: Damilola Ayomide, an environmentalist and climate change advocate educated the women and girls on recycling and the need to keep their environment clean in order to promote healthy living conditions. He also stated that money can be saved and earned through recycling.
Fourth Session: FAME Global Coordinator, Ms. Folake advised the rural women on the need of having a close relationship with children/wards especially the females. By doing so, the girls are enable to open up easily and share their pains and challenges with them.
FAME’S Founder/CEO Ms. Aderonke Bello ended the session by advising women and girls on the importance of empowering and educating themselves towards being independent.
Towards the end of the outreach, gifts items comprising of face masks, clothes, shoes, etc. which was donated by the foundation and its Volunteers were distributed to the rural women and girls.
