On this edition of #PlayitDreamitTuesday, 10 November, 2020. We have with us Mr. Ramon Vega, a Sports Business Economist and an Ex. International Swiss Football Player and we will be discussing, “how sport/football stars can contribute to global development through sports”.

Moving forward to our first question for today.
Q1. What is your take on the word, “Sports for Development”?
A1. Sports has a very important part in everybody’s life, either by active or passive participation, so therefore sports needs to be part of our life and development. It also needs to be part of our curriculum and experiences while growing up.
Q2. Seeing the importance of sports in our daily living, how can football stars make global impact through sports?
A2. Football stars have a very important role to make impact globally through sport. Because it’s the biggest and most loved sport in the world, it’s the peoples sport regardless of whatever background colour, religion, woman, man you are. Sports has given you a dream, hope, and a future.
Q3. So, how do you think they can contribute to global development?
A3. The contribution is by promoting the grassroots where they coming from or locally where they are playing active, because they need to give and show the next generation you can maybe be in the future be a star. They can be the ones promoting this sport as sport stars or coaches or sport teachers. Also giving hope to their community.

Q4. Moving forward to the next question. What are the roles of sports business economist and consultant in promoting sports?
A4. They are a very important part of the sport business, sport today has multiple streams of revenue and jobs more then before and in the last 20 years has grown massively but still has gaps in knowledge, innovation, development and infrastructure because money came before knowledge.

Yes, because they engage with various sports business in the world and have the knowledge, data and input from other parts of the world to contribute to that of it locally.
Q5. Moving forward Mr. Ramon, Why is women sports not as popular and invested in as men’s sports?
A5. I think this has been changed in the last years or so. Women’s sports has been growing and right so. Not at the pace we want but I think women’s sports, specially football has a great opportunity of growth. Women’s sport have good times ahead

Q6. Finally Mr. Ramon. What is the the way forward for boosting women’s sports, especially in Africa?
Q6. To boost women’s football or sports in Africa, it’s a culture issue. If the sport government body or government acknowledge that women in sport is very important part to balance the social impact in their country, then you see the big changes.
