FAME Foundation on May 27, 2021, marked Children’s Day in collaboration with HIYA Nigeria, NAPPS Nigeria, and Zeitgeist Aesthetics in solidarity with all bereaved children who have been affected by the insecurity challenges currently faced in the country
The event commenced with National Anthem and National Prayer led by two students from the schools in attendance.
The welcome speech was given by Anna Mambula, representing FAME Foundation. “As we celebrate children’s day today, we need to know that it is not only a day to give gifts and organize events for them but also a day to commemorate their importance in nation-building. That shows the need to pay attention and not neglect sensitive areas in which they seem affected,” she said.
The event proceeded with a zoom meeting appearance of Her Excellency, Dolapo Osinbajo, Wife of the Vice President. She commended the children for their show of concern and also encouraged them to continue to remain focused.
Children and other participants joined the event from different states via zoom meeting. They shared their opinions and experience. Children recited poems and essays to show their solidarity. A minute silence was observed for the children who lost their lives and loved ones in the siege of insecurity, followed by prayers, in both the Christain and Muslim religions.
Literal books and educational games were distributed to the headteachers representing each school, followed by a vote of thanks and closing remarks by Mrs. Damilola Oni, The project coordinator of HIYA NIGERIA.
