FAME foundation was established to solicit, encourage and advance the social, emotional and economic wellbeing of women and girls as well as formulate programmes within the framework of national development plan with a view to enhancing the participation of women and advocate for gender parity in the society.
FAME foundation firmly believe that the entire nation, businesses, communities and groups can benefit from the implementation of programs and policies that adopt the notion of women empowerment.
The rate of gender-based violence is fast-rising in the northeastern part of Nigeria. Due to the insurgency and insecurity, women and girl-children have fallen victims to sexual assault, physical assault, forced and early marriages. These violent acts occur in schools, communities, religious centers, including various homes.
Hanifa Abubakar, a five-year-old girl, and the only child of her parent is one of the recent victims of gender-based violence in Kano. Hanifa was kidnapped on the 4th of December and brutally murdered by her proprietor in cold blood even after collecting a ransom of N100,000.
FAME foundation stands against all forms of gender-based violence and commends the Kano state government for swinging into action to ensure that Hanifa receives the justice she deserves, alongside taking measures to prevent such occurrences in the future, through the remand of Tanko and his accomplices in a custodial center and revoking the licenses of private schools in Kano, to ensure that only schools fit and safe for children to learn are allowed to revalidate their certificates.
We urge esteemed citizens of Nigeria to be watchful of what transpires in their society and speak up when they discover any shady movements or occurrences so that criminals like Abdulmalik Tanko can be brought to book and served the punishment they deserve.
