FAME foundation was established to solicit, encourage and advance the social, emotional and economic wellbeing of women and girls as well as formulate programmes within the framework of national development plan with a view to enhancing the participation of women and advocate for gender parity in the society.
FAME foundation firmly believe that the entire nation, businesses, communities and groups can benefit from the implementation of programs and policies that adopt the notion of women empowerment.
FAME Foundation at the Generation Equality International Football Tournament awarded ten outstanding girls scholarships covering their basic primary education under her PLAY it DREAM it Initiative.
4 of the 10 beneficiaries are Internally Displaced Girls enrolled in LEA Primary School, Jabi Kpadna. These 4 girls’ primary education is supported by Agence Française de Développement, a partner in the PLAY it DREAM it Initiative. The remaining 6 girls’ scholarships were covered by proceeds from the Generation Equality International Football Tournament.
On March 22, the scholarship benefits consisting of tuition fees, school materials, and school uniforms were handed over to the beneficiaries in the presence of their parents/guardians, teachers, and headteacher at the LEA Primary School, Jabi Kpadna, Abuja.
Education is a right, not a privilege. In Nigeria, as discrimination against the girl-child continues to run rampant, FAME Foundation is proud to be reaffirming her commitment to educating the girl child and advocating for her rights, said Aderonke Bello, Executive Director, FAME Foundation.
“Women’s Month is coming to a close, but our relentless commitment to promoting sustainable equality in all levels of society and providing equal opportunities for the girl-child must continue, she said.
Speaking at the school, Hajiya Hauwa Abdulrahman, Headteacher LEA Jabi Kpadna, said, “every child regardless of gender, race, class, and personal circumstance deserves to learn and grow in the classroom”.
One in every five of the world’s out-of-school children is in Nigeria. Nearly 2 out of the 3 of the country’s 10.19 million out-of-school children are girls.
FAME Foundation calls on the government, international organizations, civil societies, and the general public to intensify investments into girl-child education and work towards ending early marriages in Nigeria.
