FAME foundation was established to solicit, encourage and advance the social, emotional and economic wellbeing of women and girls as well as formulate programmes within the framework of national development plan with a view to enhancing the participation of women and advocate for gender parity in the society.
FAME foundation firmly believe that the entire nation, businesses, communities and groups can benefit from the implementation of programs and policies that adopt the notion of women empowerment.
FAME Foundation held her September Football for Development session under the PLAY it DREAM it initiative with support from French Development Agency (AFD) and Global Sports Mentoring Program (GSMP). The boot camp with about 68 Internally Displaced Girls from Durumi IDP Camp, Garki, was held at Area 3 Football Pitch, Garki, Abuja, on September 30, 2022.
Sports is a compelling tool to promote peace, tolerance, and understanding, bringing people together across boundaries, cultures, and religions.
The September boot camp started with a 10 minutes aerobics exercise led by the PLAY it DREAM it Coach and Volunteers.
Following that, the girls fully participated in a fun-filled aerobics and football exercise conducted their Coach. Coach Olusegun Davids led the IDP girls and also engaged in the sporting activities.
The goal of sportsmanship is not simply to win but to pursue victory with honor by giving one’s best effort. Ethics in sports requires four key virtues: fairness, integrity, responsibility, and respect.
Coach Davids enlightened the girls on sports ethics, and emphasized that participants and coaches must follow the established rules and guidelines of the game.
Participants also were enlightened on climate change with emphasis on improper waste disposal, its harmful effects on one’s health and environment, and ways to take action for a cleaner and safer environment.
The session equipped participants with knowledge of climate change, the consequences of global warming and encouraged them to change their behavior towards the environment.
The boot camp ended with the girls asking questions and sharing what they have learned from the mentoring session.
