FAME foundation was established to solicit, encourage and advance the social, emotional and economic wellbeing of women and girls as well as formulate programmes within the framework of national development plan with a view to enhancing the participation of women and advocate for gender parity in the society.
FAME foundation firmly believe that the entire nation, businesses, communities and groups can benefit from the implementation of programs and policies that adopt the notion of women empowerment.
FAME Foundation, in collaboration with Laureus Sport for Good, held her Advocacy Sensitization Outreach as part of the PLAY it DREAM it Initiative. The first edition, titled, “Child Rights and Parenting,” which featured 52 women and 36 girls took place on April 15, 2023, at the Durumi Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp, Garki Area 1, Abuja.
The goal of the outreach was to teach and inform the women and girls about proper parenting and to groom the girls on how to fully recognize their rights and speak up for themselves and loved ones.
Ms. Sylvia Odu opened the educational session by speaking to the women and girls on the value of understanding one’s rights as a child and also about child rights in general. She educated them on the rights of all children to protection, provision, and participation. She encourages all parents to treat their children with love and respect and to avoid abusing their children’s rights.
Ms. Amina Ogunde spoke on the topic of Smart Parenting. She discussed the value of raising children well and the traits of a good parent. She also discussed several parenting techniques that might be applied to instruct and discipline a child. She alluded to certain negative behaviors and mistakes that parents make in parenting, both intentionally and unintentionally when raising their children. She stressed on the need to look out for molesters and how to recognize one, additionally advising them to stay at alert because some people might want to use their vulnerable positions to abuse their young children which includes boys and girls. She also told the girls to speak up when they notice any wrong things done around them, showing them illustration of how to detect molesters and their moves and how to avoid compromising situations. She urges all parents to prioritize their children’s needs and consistently engage with them.
At the end of the outreach, the women and girls responded to questions while addressing what they had learnt from the educational session.
