FAME foundation was established to solicit, encourage and advance the social, emotional and economic wellbeing of women and girls as well as formulate programmes within the framework of national development plan with a view to enhancing the participation of women and advocate for gender parity in the society.
FAME foundation firmly believe that the entire nation, businesses, communities and groups can benefit from the implementation of programs and policies that adopt the notion of women empowerment.
In commemoration of the World Menstrual Hygiene Day, FAME Foundation in partnership with Laureus Sport for Good organized a Menstrual Hygiene Outreach under the PLAY it DREAM it initiative.
The event was aimed to educate and enlighten women and girl about the importance of proper Menstrual Hygiene and the negative effects of poor Menstrual Hygiene.
The event which featured 70 women and 30 girls took place on June 3, 2023, at Kpadna, village, Jabi, Abuja.
Ms. Oluwatoyin Daramola kicked off the session by discussing menstrual hygiene management and highlighting the importance of period care. She also discussed how to properly dispose of used menstruation items, how to deal with monthly pain, and what foods to consume during their menstrual cycle.
She urged ladies to use adequate sanitary products when menstruating and to practice proper menstrual hygiene to avoid infection and illness.
Ms. Swat Teku addressed the problem of sanitary pad access. She demonstrated and made illustrations of how to use different sanitary products and how to dispose them properly.
She further recommended that the young girls use the best sanitary products during their periods in order to avoid feeling self-conscious in public.
She urged the girls to use quality sanitary products so they could feel at ease in class and avoid skipping class while they were menstruating.
At the end of the session, the women and girls asked and responded to questions and sanitary products were shared.
