FAME Foundation, in collaboration with Laureus Sport for Good, held its June Boot-camp on June 18, 2023 at Area 3 football pitch, Garki, Abuja, as part of the PLAY it DREAM it initiative activities.
The goal of the boot camp was aimed at helping children work together by improving their cooperation, confidence, perseverance, and teamwork.
The program included 83 children in total, 58 girls and 25 boys, from Durumi IDP camp.
The children were excited to participate in each boot-camp training session.
The first session began with simple exercises directed by Play it Dream it Trained Coach, Ms. Dinah Abohwo, who engaged the children in sports that taught them how to cooperate together, build a team, and trust in their teammates.
Following the light exercises, the boys and girls played football against one another before exchanging sides and playing amongst themselves.
The game raised their enthusiasm and excitement while also encouraging children to work together.
Ms. Folake Oyebade, a Play it Dream it Curriculum-trained Coach, led the mentoring program, teaching children the value of basic manners. She emphasized the significance of good manners and greetings.
She also taught them the proper use of “sorry,” “please,” and “thank you.”
She illustrated the difference between greeting your elders and greeting your mate.
Coach Folake Oyebade advised children to always be polite while speaking to anyone and to avoid coming out as unpleasant, especially when speaking to elderly people.
She also emphasized the necessity of saying thank you when appreciating something or someone, as well as saying please when asking for anything.
She also urged children to be friendly and confident while interacting with others.
The children participated in an interactive session in which they asked and answered a variety of questions.
