World Environment Day 2023 – Community Sensitization on Plastic Pollution
To celebrate World Environment Day this year, FAME Foundation organized its monthly community outreach program, Climate Education, Awareness, and Advocacy Program (CLEAP), under the Green Ball Project.
The event, which had an impressive turnout of approximately 60 women in total, was held in the Kpadna community, Abuja, on June 5, 2023. The outreach was aimed to educate and empower women to address the critical issue of plastic pollution.
Ms Kemisola Ibitoye, Project Officer on Climate Action at FAME Foundation, kicked off the informative session that shed light on the detrimental effects of plastic pollution on the environment and human health. She shared her knowledge and insights, emphasizing the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling plastic waste.
The outreach had a significant impact on the women of the Kpadna community and the environment as a whole. By providing education, and a platform for collective action, FAME Foundation empowered these women to become change agents in their community. The event instilled a sense of environmental responsibility, resulting in increased awareness about plastic pollution and the adoption of sustainable practices.
As a result of this outreach, women were encouraged to work together in order to achieve a common goal. They also shared their knowledge and experiences, which had an impact that extended beyond the event’s immediate reach.
