FAME foundation was established to solicit, encourage and advance the social, emotional and economic wellbeing of women and girls as well as formulate programmes within the framework of national development plan with a view to enhancing the participation of women and advocate for gender parity in the society.
FAME foundation firmly believe that the entire nation, businesses, communities and groups can benefit from the implementation of programs and policies that adopt the notion of women empowerment.
In July, FAME Foundation organized its second school sensitization for the month, Climate Education, Awareness, and Advocacy Program (CLEAP), under the Green Ball Project.
The event, which featured 63 children in total 45 girls and 18 boys, was held at L.E.A Primary School, Utako, Abuja on July 25, 2023.
Despite being the end of the term and after completing their examinations, a significant number of students turned up for the event, many of whom were not in their uniforms. While some students were present for our CLEAP outreach, others had come to take graduation photos but gladly joined the sensitization program.
The school outreach aims to educate the pupils on the dangers of the reoccurring flood in many communities in Abuja. Ms. Kemisola Ibitoye, Project Officer on Climate Action at FAME Foundation, led the interactive session, she tutored them on flooding, the causes of flooding, and some preventive measures of flooding.
Ms. Kemisola began by explaining flooding to be when water covers land that is usually dry. And this usually occurs when there is too much rain and the rivers or oceans overflow onto the land. She emphasized the major causes of flood to be heavy rainfall, storms, blocked drainage, and sewage. She proceeded to outline various preventive measures, such as constructing dams, maintaining clear drainage, and planting trees to absorb excess water.
Throughout the session, students were actively engaged through questions and discussions. Their involvement was facilitated by their personal experiences with flooding, allowing for meaningful interactions. The interactive nature of the outreach enabled students to not only ask questions but also share their encounters with flooding and how it has impacted their daily lives and communities.
The event concluded on a positive note, fostering lively discussions and enhancing awareness about flood-related concerns.
