FAME foundation was established to solicit, encourage and advance the social, emotional and economic wellbeing of women and girls as well as formulate programmes within the framework of national development plan with a view to enhancing the participation of women and advocate for gender parity in the society.
FAME foundation firmly believe that the entire nation, businesses, communities and groups can benefit from the implementation of programs and policies that adopt the notion of women empowerment.
In commemoration of the Humanitarian Day 2023, FAME Foundation in partnership with the French Embassy in Nigeria organized a Menstrual Health and Personal Hygiene Outreach under the PLAY it DREAM it initiative.
The outreach took place at the Durumi IDP camp, Area 1, Abuja, on August 19, 2023.
The outreach was held under the PLAY it DREAM it Initiative, and it was aimed at educating women and girls on how to take adequate care of themselves before, during and after menstruation.
The outreach also gave the women and girls the opportunity to learn how to produce their own reusable sanitary products as a way to eradicate period poverty.
FAME Volunteer, Ms. Swat Teku educated the participants on the use and care of reusable sanitary pads. She also demonstrated the use of various sanitary items and gave advise on how to take care of oneself without the use of menstrual products. She the allowed women and girls to demonstrate how they use their sanitary products and answered questions from the audience regarding the use of menstrual products.
Ms. Grace Iliya lectured the participants on how and why they should maintain good hygiene before and after menstruation. She provided practical tips and encouraged the women and girls to improve their personal hygiene in order to avoid illness and infection. She advised the girls and women to keep their self clean at all times in order to boost their self-esteem in terms of appearance.
At the end of the outreach, the women and girls asked questions about menstruation, menstrual cycle and other hygiene tips.
They also received souvenirs to encourage them maintain proper personal hygiene.
