Project CLEAP: FAME Educates IDPs On Climate Change.
Under the Green Ball Project, FAME Foundation organized its first sensitization program for the month of September- Climate Education, Awareness and Advocacy Program (CLEAP) for 55 Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) children, 40 girls and 15 boys. The program took place on September 10th, 2023 at Area 3 Football Pitch, Abuja.
This outreach is aimed to empower the children with the knowledge and skills related to climate change. It also sought to instill a sense of responsibility for the environment while promoting sustainable practices.
Ms. Ebunoluwa Oni, a project officer, led the interactive session, providing the children with insights on waste management. Waste management, according to her, is the process of handling, recycling, and disposing of waste materials. She emphasized how important it protect our environment and human health and if properly managed it reduces pollution.
She demonstrated proper disposal methods by teaching the children how to properly dispose their nylon, plastics, and other materials. This practical session allowed the children to actively engage in the discussion.
Ms. Ebunoluwa further encouraged the children to become advocates in their camps. They were also guided on how to raise awareness about environmental issues in their communities and how they will promote sustainable practices among their peers and families.
To boost the learning experience, questions were asked, making the session engaging and enjoyable for the children. The IDP children who participated gained a deeper understanding of climate change and the importance of waste management.
By educating these children about waste management and climate change, Project CLEAP can influence the community. As these children educate their family and friends about what they’ve learned, it may encourage more environmentally conscious behavior in the larger community.
The interactive session concluded, and the children returned to their respective homes.
