FAME Foundation in collaboration with Laureus Sport for Good organized its Advocacy Sensitization Outreach on Saturday, November 25, 2023.
The event’s theme was “Child Rights and Parenting,” a topic aimed at enlightening women and girls about the vital aspects of understanding children’s rights and becoming responsible parents.
This event was held at the IDP camp in Durumi, Area 1, Abuja, and had in attendance a total of 150 participants, 115 women, and 35 girls, all eager to absorb knowledge and engage in meaningful discussions.
Ms. Yetunde Opeloyeru, a Child Rights expert, led the educational session, encouraging participants to share their understanding of key terms related to the theme, words like “child, rights, and parenting.”
She delves into the complexity of child rights, providing insights into the right to education, freedom of speech for children, the repercussions of child marriage, and the issue of child labour. She passionately conveyed the significance of these rights to the attentive audience of women and girls.
Ms. Yetunde continued to elaborate on the rights of children, explaining their entitlement to quality education, family care, love, and protection. She also discussed pressing issues such as child marriage, and the eradication of illegal child labour.
She urged the women to be wary of people with evil intentions who may try to deceive them by offering them enormous sums of money and the promise of a better life for their children, only to turn around and utilize them as slaves.
In addition to enlightening the participants about child rights, she emphasized the pivotal role of parents in safeguarding their children from harm, exploitation, and child marriages.
The event concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, offering the women and girls an opportunity to actively participate, ask questions, and deepen their understanding of child rights and responsible parenting.
This Advocacy Sensitization Outreach represented a significant step towards promoting the well-being and protection of children in our society, ensuring that they grow up in a safe and nurturing environment.
