IWD 2024: FAME Foundation Set to Hold Annual Football Tournament
FAME Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) based in Abuja, will be hosting its annual “Generation Equality International Football Tournament”, organized to commemorate International Women’s Day 2024.
The football tournament is set to take place on March 8, 2024, at the Area 3 Football Pitch, Garki, Abuja, and will be featuring eight amateur women’s football teams from various sectors, including Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), diplomatic communities, public and private sectors. volunteers, and more. These teams will engage in friendly competitions.
Speaking to the press, the Executive Director of FAME Foundation, Arabinrin Aderonke Ogunleye-Bello, emphasized the significance of the event,
“International Women’s Day (IWD) brings people together all over the world to celebrate women’s achievements and renew their commitment to gender equality. It provides an opportunity to reflect on progress, call for change, and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.”
She continued by saying, “Our annual event, Generation Equality International Football Tournament is not merely a sporting event; it is an initiative that seeks to amplify the voices and contributions of women, promoting a collective consciousness towards a more equitable and inclusive society. Through the power of sport, this tournament becomes a beacon for positive change.”
She also stated that in addition to the main football match, participants can look forward to a range of side events aimed at promoting women’s health and well-being. These include free eye tests, cervical cancer screenings, and other medical related checkups.
