This project is under the Play It Dream It Initiative, focusing on empowering youth through sports. Additionally, it acts as a platform for breakdancers to exhibit their skills and nurture a sense of community within the breaking community.
FAME Foundation is pleased to introduce the 2024 Sport Envoy Program. This program features a range of activities, including Masterclass Training sessions for breakdancers in Lagos and Abuja, strategic meetings, TV station tours promoting breakdancing, mentoring sessions, and interactive team-building activities at the School for the Deaf. These efforts will culminate in a final grand performance, alongside other exciting activities.
Speaking to the press, Arabinrin Aderonke Ogunleye-Bello, Executive Director, FAME Foundation, expressed her enthusiasm, stating,
“We’re happy to collaborate with the US Mission in Nigeria to use breakdancing as a tool for positive change in Nigerian communities. This partnership isn’t just about dance; it’s about creating opportunities for young people to shine, discover their talents, and show the world what they’re made of.”
She elaborated, emphasizing the timely nature of the workshop,
“While breakdancing was once primarily viewed as entertainment, it has now evolved into a recognized sport in the Olympics. This transition opens avenues for investment, paving the way for the establishment of breakdance clubs globally, just like football. Moreover, it offers numerous career opportunities for aspiring youths in this field”.
Arabinrin Aderonke emphasized the organization’s progress, stating,
“This signifies the National Breakdance Championship 2.0 for us, following the successful hosting of last year’s event across five states in Nigeria, with participation from over 13 states. We’re proud to announce that two of our champions from this groundbreaking event will be competing in France this year.
She reiterated,
“The 2024 Sports Envoy program will feature special masterclass training sessions led by top veteran breakdancers. It’s happening from May 13th to 18th in Lagos and Abuja. In these masterclass sessions, participants will receive top-notch training and insights from these professionals, it’s a fantastic opportunity for breakdancers across Nigeria to come together, learn, and showcase their talents.”
She emphasized that the masterclass is more than just a show—it’s a celebration of talent and unity. With support from partners and the passion of youth, FAME Foundation is poised to make history.
