Arabinrin Aderonke Advocates for Mental Health in the Workplace.
World Mental Health Day, marked annually on October 10th, brings together people, organizations, and governments globally to enhance awareness of mental health issues and advocate for the needed support and education. This year’s theme, “Mental Health at Work,” underscores the critical need for promoting supportive workplace environments that prioritize mental well-being.
Speaking to the press, Arabinrin Aderonke Atoyebi, Executive Director, FAME Foundation, highlighted the necessity of prioritizing mental health in the workplace, stressing that it is important for overall wellness,
“Today, we come together to honor World Mental Health Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about the role mental health plays in the workplace. This year’s theme emphasizes the urgent need for both employers and employees to view mental health as a fundamental aspect of overall workplace wellness. By working together, we can create an environment where everyone feels supported and valued, ultimately leading to a healthier and more productive workforce.”
Aderonke stressed the importance of shared responsibility, saying,
“Creating a nurturing work environment is a collective duty. By promoting open dialogue, encouraging work-life balance, and providing access to mental health resources, we can cultivate healthier workplaces that enhance both individual and organizational resilience.”
In line with the theme “Mental Health at Work,” Arabinrin Aderonke Atoyebi highlighted FAME Foundation’s commitment to promoting mental health awareness in professional settings, she stated,
“By fostering an environment that prioritizes mental health, FAME Foundation not only improves staff well-being but also increases productivity and creates more resilient teams. This commitment is crucial as we navigate the challenges of today’s work environment, ensuring that everyone feels supported and encouraged to thrive.”
She continued by saying,
“As we celebrate this day, let us reaffirm our commitment to building workplace cultures where mental health is valued and prioritized. Through our efforts, we aim to equip both employers and employees with the knowledge and tools necessary to support mental well-being.”
She concluded by calling on stakeholders, civil society organizations, and government bodies to join forces in raising awareness, mobilizing action, and championing mental health in the workplace through focused campaigns.
