On November 27, 2024, FAME Foundation, with the support of Tackle Africa, organized Community Change Ambassadors Program (CCAP) at Igbo-Owu Junior Secondary School in Lagos. The event, held under the Play It Dream It initiative, aimed to empower 28 young girls by promoting girl-led community engagement. The program’s primary focus was to inspire these girls to take on leadership roles, enhance their communication skills, and become advocates for positive change within their communities.
The event began with a registration process, followed by an introduction from Ms. Kemisola Ibitoye, Director of Programs, FAME Foundation. Ms Kemisola welcomed the participants and provided an overview of FAME Foundation’s mission and goals for the Community Change Ambassadors Program. She explained that the program was designed to equip the girls with the knowledge and skills they need to become effective leaders and advocates for social change.
The first speaker, Ms. Olayinka Wells, addressed the participants with a session titled “LEADING IN YOUR COMMUNITY: HOW GIRLS CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE AMONG THEIR PEERS AND COMMUNITY.” In her presentation, Ms. Olayinka focused on the impact girls can have in their communities through leadership. She encouraged the participants to recognize their potential and the power they have to inspire positive change. She stressed that leadership is not only about holding positions of authority but also about influencing others through one’s actions and integrity. She urged the girls to speak up for what they believe in and advocate for justice, both for themselves and for their peers.
Ms. Asian Idiong, a girl child advocate, led the second session titled “EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION AND ADVOCACY: EMPOWERING GIRLS THROUGH PUBLIC SPEAKING AND RIGHTS ADVOCACY.” In this session, Ms. Asian highlighted the role of communication in advocacy and how effective public speaking skills can help girls become strong voices for change. She taught the participants how to use communication to express their opinions, challenge injustices, and advocate for gender equality. Ms. Asian also provided practical tools for public speaking and advocacy, encouraging the girls to build their confidence and speak out on issues that matter to them. She emphasized the importance of using their voices to inspire others to take action and create positive change in their communities.
The program concluded with a Question-and-Answer session, allowing the participants to engage directly with the speakers. During this interactive segment, the girls had the opportunity to ask questions about leadership, communication, and how they could apply the skills learned in their daily lives.
