Report on Climate Education Awareness and Advocacy Program
On November 19, 2024, FAME Foundation, under its Green Ball Project, held Climate Education, Awareness, and Advocacy Program at L.E.A. Primary School, Jabi Kpadna, Abuja. The program was attended by fifty (50) pupils, comprising 30 girls and 20 boys. This initiative was designed to educate students about climate change and its impacts, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to adopt sustainable practices.
The program commenced with an introduction by Ms. Oluwatomisin Akinbowa, who provided an overview of the Green Ball Project and its objectives. This was followed by an interactive segment where the pupils introduced themselves, creating a welcoming and participatory atmosphere.
Our speaker, Ms. Oladayo Shogbanmu, Project Assistant, FAME Foundation, taught on the topic “SANITATION AND CLEAN WATER”. Ms. Oladayo defined sanitation as the practice of maintaining cleanliness and safety in the environment by properly managing waste and preventing the spread of harmful germs. She elaborated on sanitation practices, including the use of clean toilets, regular handwashing with soap, proper disposal of trash, and the protection of water sources from contamination.
She further emphasized the importance of sanitation and clean water in promoting health and well-being. She detailed the adverse effects of poor sanitation and lack of access to clean water, such as increased vulnerability to waterborne diseases like cholera and dysentery. The session was interactive, with the pupils actively participating by answering questions and seeking clarification on points they found challenging.
The program concluded with the students applauding the speakers and expressing their gratitude by spelling out H E R O as a gesture of appreciation.
Through the Green Ball Project, FAME Foundation continues to engage schools in Abuja, enhancing climate education and advocacy to empower young people with the knowledge and tools needed to contribute to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
