FAME Foundation Calls for Inclusive Actions on International Day of Persons with Disabilities
On this International Day of Persons with Disabilities, FAME Foundation, an NGO based in Abuja, stands united in advocating for the rights, dignity, and inclusion of people with disabilities. This year’s theme, “Amplifying the leadership of persons with disability for an inclusive and sustainable future,” emphasizes the urgent need for collective efforts to create a more accessible and equitable society.
Speaking to the press, Arabinrin Aderonke, Executive Director of FAME Foundation, stated,
“Today serves as a powerful reminder of the challenges faced by people with disabilities. We must prioritize their voices and experiences as we work towards a society that values diversity and promotes inclusivity in all spheres of life.”
Arabinrin Aderonke added,
“Despite the progress made in recent years, many people with disabilities still face significant barriers that hinder their participation in society. We must work together to dismantle these obstacles, be it through accessible infrastructure, inclusive policies, or awareness campaigns that challenge stereotypes. Everyone has the right to participate fully and equally in our communities, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that this right is upheld.”
FAME Foundation utilizes HerSTEM initiative to empower women and girls with disabilities with STEM skills to enable them to bridge the current gender gap in Science and Technology fields. This initiative also aims to raise awareness about the barriers faced by people with disabilities and promote dialogue on creating inclusive policies and practices.
She also emphasized that FAME Foundation stands for the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to fully engage in society. It’s time to remove the obstacles that deny people with disabilities the same chances as everyone else.
She concluded with a call to action to organizations and government agencies to prioritize accessibility in their programs, recruit different talent, and ensure that their services can cater to everyone including people with disabilities.
