FAME foundation was established to solicit, encourage and advance the social, emotional and economic wellbeing of women and girls as well as formulate programmes within the framework of national development plan with a view to enhancing the participation of women and advocate for gender parity in the society.
FAME foundation firmly believe that the entire nation, businesses, communities and groups can benefit from the implementation of programs and policies that adopt the notion of women empowerment.
As the world observes International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025, a day that honors women’s achievements and promotes progress in gender equality, the FAME Foundation is calling for immediate and accelerated action to dismantle the barriers that continue to hinder women’s participation in society.
This year’s theme, “Accelerate Action,” highlights the urgency of fast-tracking the path to gender equality and creating a world where women can succeed without restrictions.
FAME Foundation, an NGO based in Abuja, is marking IWD 2025 with its annual Women’s Day football tournament, designed to promote inclusion and challenge gender stereotypes in sports. This event is one of many initiatives by FAME to drive real change and empower women in all aspects of society.
Speaking with the press, Arabinrin Aderonke Atoyebi, Executive Director, FAME Foundation, emphasized the need for immediate action to close the gender gap,
“Women have been fighting for their rightful place in society for over a century. They’ve fought against systemic barriers that limit their access to education, economic opportunities, and leadership positions. Though there has been progress, women remain underrepresented in key leadership roles. Now, more than ever, it’s time for action. Words are no longer enough, we need concrete steps that lead to lasting change.”
Arabinrin Aderonke continued to underscore the importance of this year’s theme, noting that gender equality is not just a women’s issue but an economic and societal imperative,
“We cannot afford to move at a slow pace. Every day that gender inequality persists is another day of untapped potential, another opportunity lost, and another future diminished. True progress requires real action, inclusive policies, and a concerted effort to break down the barriers that have sidelined women and girls for far too long.”
She further stressed the importance of equal access to opportunities in all sectors,
“From the boardroom to the sports field, from politics to business, women must have the same access to opportunities as men. They deserve the chance to lead, succeed, and make meaningful contributions to society. At FAME Foundation, we continue to champion initiatives that empower women and girls through education, advocacy, and community-driven programs.”
In line with the spirit of International Women’s Day, FAME Foundation is organizing its Annual Women’s Day Football Tournament, which not only celebrates women’s resilience but also sends a strong message about the power of sports to challenge gender stereotypes.
“Sport is a powerful tool for change. Through this football tournament, we are demonstrating that women belong everywhere, including on the football field. Women have the skill, strength, and determination to compete at every level, in every sector.”
In addition to the tournament, FAME Foundation is expanding its support by offering healthcare services at the event. Women and girls will have access to free eye tests, cervical cancer screenings, malaria testing, and other health services, further underlining our commitment to holistic empowerment.
She concluded by reiterating the urgency of action,
“Gender equality is not a privilege; it’s a fundamental human right. It’s time to move beyond words and into action. Together, we can create a world where every woman and girl has the opportunity to dream, achieve, and lead without limitations.”
As the world marks International Women’s Day 2025, FAME Foundation is calling on governments, organizations, and people to accelerate action towards gender equality. The time for change is now. Equal rights, equal opportunities, and equal power are the foundation of a just and thriving society, and it’s a call that cannot be ignored.
