FAME foundation was established to solicit, encourage and advance the social, emotional and economic wellbeing of women and girls as well as formulate programmes within the framework of national development plan with a view to enhancing the participation of women and advocate for gender parity in the society.
FAME foundation firmly believe that the entire nation, businesses, communities and groups can benefit from the implementation of programs and policies that adopt the notion of women empowerment.
On the occasion of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP), FAME Foundation celebrates the undeniable impact that sport continues to have in advancing development, peace, and social cohesion globally. This observance, marked annually on April 6th, underscores the importance of sports as a tool for creating opportunities, empowering communities, and enhancing mutual respect across cultures.
The 2025 theme, Leveling the Playing Field: Sport for Social Inclusion, highlights the role of sport in driving social change and breaking down barriers. It draws attention to the need for inclusive platforms where people from all walks of life can unite through sport, and in turn, work toward equality, opportunity, and development.
Speaking to the press, Arabinrin Aderonke Atoyebi, Executive Director, FAME Foundation, emphasized the foundation’s commitment to using sport as a catalyst for social change, saying,
“Sport is heterogeneous in nature. It is our core thing. We have tried it, used it, and seen its tremendous impact. I can say for a fact that we have engaged with different sports – football, yoga, karate, racing, Para-sports, even breakdancing when it was introduced as a sport in the Olympics, among others. Our focus is grassroots, underprivileged communities, women, and youth. We use sport to empower people and transform lives.”
She continued,
“We have seen firsthand how sport can create opportunities for personal growth, bridge gaps, and bring communities together. Through sports, we have fought against social ills such as drug abuse, gender-based violence, and health challenges. It is a powerful tool for addressing the issues that many face in our communities.”
Arabinrin Aderonke further emphasized the importance of investment in sport, saying,
“There is a need for huge investments in sports and to support organizations using sport as a tool for social change. Sport is an invaluable resource that can drive sustainable change, create lasting impact, and promote social justice. It is critical that we continue to advocate for the inclusion of sport in development policies to ensure that its benefits reach all corners of society.”
Arabinrin Aderonke concluded by affirming that FAME Foundation will remain dedicated to using sport as a tool for positive social change, stating,
“At FAME Foundation, we are committed to breaking down barriers, building bridges, and creating opportunities through sport. Whether through community outreach, education, or local and international collaboration, we will continue to harness the power of sport for a better, more inclusive future.”
FAME Foundation encourages everyone to join the movement by participating in sports events, supporting youth programs, and advocating for the inclusion of sport in development policies. Together, we can make a big difference in promoting peace, equality, and sustainable development around the world.
