FAME foundation was established to solicit, encourage and advance the social, emotional and economic wellbeing of women and girls as well as formulate programmes within the framework of national development plan with a view to enhancing the participation of women and advocate for gender parity in the society.
FAME foundation firmly believe that the entire nation, businesses, communities and groups can benefit from the implementation of programs and policies that adopt the notion of women empowerment.
FAME Foundation, in partnership with Laureus Sport for Good, hosted the Child Rights and Parenting Outreach on August 23, 2025, at the Durumi Internally Displaced Persons Camp in Abuja under its flagship PLAY it DREAM it program. The outreach was designed as a safe and engaging space where women and girls could deepen their understanding of child rights, explore positive parenting practices, and reflect on the importance of nurturing supportive and inclusive home environments.
Over 70 participants, mostly women and adolescent girls from the camp, took part in the program. They engaged in discussions that highlighted how barriers such as gender inequality, cultural biases, and limited access to education undermine the wellbeing of children and limit their chances of reaching their full potential. The sessions emphasized that when these challenges remain unaddressed, they not only affect children’s growth and opportunities but also compromise their mental and emotional stability.
A key highlight of the outreach was the session led by Ms. Chizoba Anyadiegwu, who spoke on the theme How Women Can Promote Peace and Fairness in Their Communities. Her presentation drew attention to the vital role women play in shaping both homes and societies. She explained that parenting practices carry deep influence on how children perceive themselves and others, often determining whether gender stereotypes are reinforced or dismantled within the family setting. Ms. Anyadiegwu also emphasized that when girls and boys are raised with equal opportunities, communities are better positioned to thrive socially and economically in the long term.
The session further highlighted the intersection between gender equity and peacebuilding, underscoring the fact that communities where women and girls are valued equally tend to experience greater harmony, stronger social bonds, and less conflict. Ms. Anyadiegwu reminded participants that peacebuilding is not solely the result of political or large-scale interventions but begins in the most intimate spaces of daily life. She explained that simple household choices, such as teaching respect, fairness, and non-violence—lay the foundation for peaceful societies.
The outreach equipped women and girls at the Durumi IDP Camp with practical knowledge and encouragement to see their roles not only as caregivers but also as advocates for justice, fairness, and social cohesion. It reaffirmed the principle that strengthening child rights and positive parenting practices is central to building healthier families and, by extension, stronger communities.
This initiative reflects FAME Foundation’s ongoing commitment under the PLAY it DREAM it program to use sport, education, and advocacy as tools to empower vulnerable populations, especially women, girls, and children. The partnership with Laureus Sport for Good provided the platform to extend this impact to one of Abuja’s most marginalized communities, ensuring that voices often unheard are included in shaping a future where fairness, equality, and peace take root from the family to the wider society.
