FAME Foundation Partners Man City, Midea to Empower Young Nigerians
An Abuja-based non-governmental organisation, FAME Foundation, has partnered with former English Premier League (EPL) champions, Manchester City Football Club of England and a global appliance leader, Midea, to launch a new community initiative in Lagos, Nigeria.
With the partnership, the Foundation joins other NGOs in four African countries, namely Kenya, Angola, South Africa and Morocco, to empower young children through football and education.
Tribunesports report that the project will be implemented in Lagos under the “Play It, Dream It” initiative, a program that uses the power of sport, particularly football, to educate, inspire and empower young people. The “Play It, Dream It” initiative has reached thousands of young people across the country, providing them with life skills, mentorship and opportunities for growth.
The partnership is the first of its kind in Nigeria and is a big step for community football development in the country. Through the partnership with Manchester City and Midea, FAME Foundation will conduct community football activities that promote the health, leadership development and confidence of young people in Lagos. The program will also make community football hubs safe and welcoming places where children can learn, play, and grow.
In an official statement published on Manchester City’s website, the Director of Corporate Social Responsibility at City Football Group, Tom Pitchon, said, “Through this partnership, we are using football and Midea products to uplift the lives of young people around the world. The community football projects we are supporting will provide young people in cities across the globe with a home away from home, while promoting health, life skills, confidence, new friendships, and leadership opportunities.”
Also speaking, Bright Yao, Regional Sales Director at Midea Africa, said, “At Midea, we value social responsibility, and we believe in making technology accessible with purpose, and this initiative does exactly that. By bringing our products to grassroots communities and partnering with local organisations, we’re not just providing appliances, we are helping to create safe, inspiring spaces where young people can thrive. These are the kinds of real-life impacts that matter to us and to the future of the communities that we serve.”
Through this new partnership with Manchester City and Midea, FAME Foundation reaffirms its commitment to creating healthier, happier, and more connected communities in Nigeria.
