FAME Foundation’s Goodwill Ambassador, Folashade Oluwafemiayo, Sets New World Record and Wins Gold in Cairo
FAME Foundation proudly celebrates the outstanding achievement of our Goodwill Ambassador, Folashade Oluwafemiayo, who set a new world record and won a gold medal at the World Para Powerlifting Championships held in Cairo, Egypt.
Folashade lifted 168 kilograms in the women’s over 86 kg category, breaking her previous world record of 167 kilograms which she set at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. This performance earned her a fourth world championship title and confirmed her position as one of the most successful athletes in para powerlifting.
China’s Cui Zhe finished in second place, while Iran’s Nikoo Roozbahani took the bronze medal. The 2025 World Para Powerlifting Championships was the first to be hosted in Africa, making Folashade’s victory even more special.
Her journey has been one of determination and resilience. Since taking up para powerlifting in 2010, she has continued to rise above challenges and setbacks to achieve global success. She first won a silver medal at the London 2012 Paralympic Games and has since claimed multiple world titles in Mexico City, Nur-Sultan, and Tbilisi before this latest triumph in Cairo.
Folashade was appointed as FAME Foundation’s Goodwill Ambassador in 2024 in recognition of her inspiring story, excellence, and dedication to promoting inclusion and empowerment for women and persons with disabilities. Through her role, she continues to support the foundation’s mission to create equal opportunities and build confidence in communities across Nigeria.
Her recent victory once again brings pride to the nation and serves as a motivation to young people, especially those living with disabilities, to believe in their abilities and pursue their dreams with courage and commitment.
FAME Foundation congratulates Folashade Oluwafemiayo on her world record and gold medal win in Cairo and celebrates her for being a true representation of strength, perseverance, and excellence.
