FAME foundation was established to solicit, encourage and advance the social, emotional and economic wellbeing of women and girls as well as formulate programmes within the framework of national development plan with a view to enhancing the participation of women and advocate for gender parity in the society.
FAME foundation firmly believe that the entire nation, businesses, communities and groups can benefit from the implementation of programs and policies that adopt the notion of women empowerment.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced the Fit for the Future Olympian Grant, a new initiative that will provide eligible Olympians with $10,000 for each Olympic Games they compete in.
The grant is designed to help athletes during their competitive years and as they prepare for the next stage of their lives. Around 14,000 Olympians from each edition of the Olympic Games are expected to be eligible, with athletes from the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games set to be the first beneficiaries. Applications are expected to open later this year, with the first payments scheduled for 2027.
Unlike prize money, the grant recognises the dedication and sacrifices required to reach the Olympic Games, while giving athletes greater flexibility to invest in their future.
FAME Foundation welcomes the initiative, noting that athletes often face financial, educational and career challenges long after the applause has faded. Programmes such as this acknowledge that competing at the highest level is only one part of an athlete’s journey.
The announcement also highlights the importance of building stronger support systems for athletes across Africa. Expanding access to education, career planning, financial literacy, mental wellbeing services and safeguarding can help athletes build stable futures while continuing to inspire the next generation.
FAME Foundation remains committed to advancing athlete wellbeing through sport for development initiatives and supports efforts that create lasting opportunities for athletes both on and off the field.
