FAME Foundation, Through PACT, to Hold Two-Day Training on AI-Generated Misinformation and Election Reporting
FAME Foundation for Girls and Women Empowerment, through its Public Accountability, Citizenship and Transparency (PACT) Initiative, will hold a two-day training on AI-Generated Misinformation, Digital Content Verification and Fact-Checking in Election Reporting on Thursday, 29 October, and Friday, 30 October 2026, in Abuja.
The training will equip journalists and social media influencers with practical skills to identify AI-generated misinformation, verify digital content and fact-check election-related claims before publishing or sharing them.
Artificial intelligence tools can now generate images, videos and voice recordings that appear authentic. During elections, such content can mislead the public about candidates, political parties and the electoral process when circulated as genuine. This makes digital verification and responsible reporting particularly important.
PACT is FAME Foundation’s initiative focused on democracy, citizen participation and good governance in Nigeria. Through this training, the Foundation aims to strengthen the role of journalists and social media influencers in promoting accurate election information and informed public participation.
The first day will cover the risks of AI-generated content in election reporting, ethical reporting principles and fact-checking methods, including tracing claims to their original sources and assessing available evidence.
The second day will focus on verifying images, videos and audio recordings, as well as using publicly available information to investigate claims and establish the origins of digital content.
Practical group exercises will run across both days, giving participants the opportunity to examine election-related claims and media content and apply verification techniques to real-world scenarios.
The training reflects our commitment to strengthening information integrity and supporting a more informed and accountable democratic process in Nigeria.
