FAME foundation was established to solicit, encourage and advance the social, emotional and economic wellbeing of women and girls as well as formulate programmes within the framework of national development plan with a view to enhancing the participation of women and advocate for gender parity in the society.
FAME foundation firmly believe that the entire nation, businesses, communities and groups can benefit from the implementation of programs and policies that adopt the notion of women empowerment.
FAME Foundation, in collaboration with Laureus Sport for Good, held its monthly Life Skills Development through Sports session on July 24, 2025. The session was hosted at LEA Primary School in Garki, Abuja, under the Play It Dream It initiative. Over 70 participants participated in the program and took part in a variety of structured sports activities designed to promote personal and social development.
The focus of this session was on helping participants build life skills such as self-confidence, self-esteem, and teamwork. These were addressed through carefully planned exercises that required both physical effort and group coordination. The day began with a warm-up routine conducted by Coach Jeffrey Edung. During this session, children performed jogging and stretching activities that prepared their bodies for physical engagement and reduced the risk of injuries.
The first main activity involved a ball-passing exercise. This was followed by a football game, both of which required communication and cooperation among team members. These games served as tools to encourage interaction, break down social barriers, and improve participants’ ability to work together.
Later, participants were grouped to complete a basket-filling challenge. Using balls, they were instructed to fill baskets within a time limit. The task required coordination, patience, and shared effort, reinforcing focus and collaboration. Through each of these physical tasks, children also developed motor skills including balance, agility, and coordination.
Following the sports segment, a mentorship session was held and facilitated by Ms. Laitu Jirai. She guided the children through discussions aimed at helping them distinguish between right and wrong. The session included open dialogue where the children were encouraged to talk about their choices and think about the impact of their actions. Ms. Jirai used relatable examples to help the participants reflect on daily situations, guiding them toward values such as honesty, kindness, respect, and responsibility.
A question-and-answer session followed the mentoring conversation. This allowed the children to share their thoughts and ask questions based on the topics discussed. It provided a space for clarity, interaction, and deeper reflection. Many of the children participated by expressing their understanding and responding to questions, contributing to the overall learning experience.
The session came to a close with a group photo session, during which participants and facilitators posed together, marking the end of the day’s activities.
