FAME Foundation Condemns Abduction of 25 Schoolgirls in Kebbi
FAME Foundation is shocked and deeply disturbed by the recent abduction of 25 schoolgirls from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State. They were abducted in the early hours of 17 November 2025, around 4:00 a.m. How is it possible that in this nation, in this day and age, children can be taken from their classrooms? What has gone so wrong that our girls cannot even feel safe while seeking an education? This horrifying incident is yet another reminder of the ongoing threats to children’s safety in Nigeria, particularly girls, who are disproportionately targeted in attacks on schools.
The abduction of these young girls is part of a troubling pattern that has plagued the country for over a decade. Since the Chibok abduction in 2014 and the Dapchi and Zamfara incidents in subsequent years, children have continued to face unimaginable risks simply for pursuing knowledge. Attacks on schools not only traumatize the victims and their families but also threaten the future of education in affected communities. Many children are now too afraid to attend school, and the psychological impact on survivors and their peers is much.
FAME Foundation calls on the Nigerian authorities, security forces, and all relevant stakeholders to act fast and decisively. Immediate steps must be taken to rescue the abducted girls and ensure that perpetrators are held accountable. In addition, long-term measures must be implemented to secure schools and protect children across states in Nigeria. The safety and education of every child must be treated as a national priority.
Our thoughts are with the abducted girls, their families, and the entire school community.
FAME Foundation remains committed to advocating for the rights, safety, and education of all children. We will continue to work with partners, communities, and authorities to ensure that schools are safe spaces where children can learn and thrive without fear of violence or abduction.
Nigeria must confront this crisis with urgency. The time to act is now. Our children’s lives, their education, and their future depend on it.
