FAME Foundation Stands Against the Brutal Abduction of School Children and Teachers in Oriire LGA, Oyo State
FAME Foundation for Girls and Women Empowerment utterly condemns the horrific, coordinated attacks and mass abduction of innocent schoolchildren and teachers from three schools in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on Friday, May 15, 2026.
This targeted assault on the Baptist Nursery and Primary School (Yawota), Community Grammar School (Ahoro-Esinle), and L.A. Primary School (Esiele) is not merely a breach of regional security; it is a direct, violent assault on the right to education, the safety of our children, and the protection of the teachers who dedicate their lives to shaping our future.
We are deeply devastated and outraged by the confirmed loss of lives during this raid, and the heartbreaking murder of a mathematics teacher, Michael Oyedokun, while in captivity. To force a school principal and vulnerable children to plead for their lives on camera is an act of unspeakable psychological terror that must not be tolerated.
“When schools are no longer safe, our country is broken. We cannot fold our hands and watch classrooms become targets for terrorists. Every child has a basic right to education, and going to school should never cost them their lives.”
FAME Foundation stands in absolute solidarity with the traumatized families of Yawota, Esinle, and Alausa, as well as the entire teaching community of Ogbomoso who are currently protesting for their basic right to a safe workplace.
We urgently demand the following actions from federal and state authorities:
We urge Governor Seyi Makinde, the Oyo State Police Command, and the Defence Headquarters to deploy every available resource including the newly reassembled aerial surveillance aircraft to safely extract the remaining 39 students and teachers without further casualties.
The arrest of suspects must lead to thorough investigations and swift, transparent prosecutions. Complicity in the terrorization of children must meet the heaviest consequences of the law.
Government must immediately implement better structural security and early warning systems in rural and borderline educational facilities to protect against the southward migration of criminal networks into dense forest reserves.
We will not be silent while the futures of our young girls and boys are bartered away by bandits. We call on all civil society organizations, leaders, and stakeholders to join us in demanding immediate accountability and the safe return of our children and teachers.
