In Her Words, is an anthology published by a group of five (5) African women based in different parts of the world who are providing a platform for young African women to contribute to the creative landscape.
In March 2021, we jointly compiled and edited an anthology – a collection of stories and essays from 15 young women across 7 African countries chronicling their unique, lived experiences on gender equality and gender issues.
Building on the back of that successful project, we hope to expand opportunities to a younger demography (young girls aged 13 to 18, again across the continent and the diaspora) to contribute their thoughts, ideas and lived experiences as well.
The best essay will be awarded a monetary prize of 100 dollars and published as part of a second anthology series titled “In Her Words: Perspectives of African Girls on Gender Equality.”
The top entries will get the opportunity to receive mentoring from older women who are already published writers.
The finished compilation will be published on a foremost digital platform housing creative content from Africans. Overall, the project will give voice to young girls to share their unique stories, serve as a platform to identify new and young female creators and encourage collaboration and mentorship between two generations of young African women.
