FAME foundation firmly believe that the entire nation, businesses, communities and groups can benefit from the implementation of programs and policies that adopt the notion of women empowerment.
On September 7, 2024, FAME Foundation, in collaboration with Laureus Sport for Good, organized the Child Rights and Parenting Outreach under the PLAY it DREAM it initiative. This event aimed to support internally displaced persons (IDPs) by providing training to enhance parent-child communication.
This event was held at the Durumi IDP Camp in Area 1, Abuja, and successfully engaged 70 beneficiaries, including 50 women and 20 girls.
The workshop featured Ms. Okadu Tama, who offered valuable insights into improving parent-child communication through active listening. Ms. Tama’s teaching focused on building stronger connections between parents and their children by teaching effective listening strategies.
Her guidance emphasized creating a safe environment where children feel free to express themselves without fear of judgment. She encouraged parents to practice reflective listening to validate their children’s feelings. She used non-verbal communication techniques, such as eye contact and supportive body language, to reinforce understanding and support.
Ms. Tama’s approach aimed to help mothers engage more effectively with their daughters by responding empathetically to their thoughts and emotions. The event concluded with a question-and-answer session, where attendees had the chance to delve deeper into the topics discussed.
Participants actively engaged with Ms. Tama, asking questions about the challenges in their parent-child relationships. The session fostered an interactive environment where the women and girls shared their personal experiences and discussed practical solutions.
The outreach not only reinforced the learning objectives but also strengthened the community bonds among the participants, enhancing their ability to support one another in their parenting journeys.
