FAME foundation was established to solicit, encourage and advance the social, emotional and economic wellbeing of women and girls as well as formulate programmes within the framework of national development plan with a view to enhancing the participation of women and advocate for gender parity in the society.
FAME foundation firmly believe that the entire nation, businesses, communities and groups can benefit from the implementation of programs and policies that adopt the notion of women empowerment.
As we observe the International Day of the Girl Child today, FAME Foundation, a non-governmental organization based in Abuja, reaffirms its commitment to advocating for the rights and empowerment of girls everywhere.
The International Day of the Girl Child is observed globally on 11 October. It is a global moment on which to celebrate girls everywhere, amplifying their voices, actions, and leadership. The theme of this year is ‘Girls’ vision for the future’.
Speaking to the press, Arabinrin Aderonke Atoyebi, Executive Director,
FAME Foundation, emphasized the critical need to support and empower young girls worldwide,
“As we celebrate this day dedicated to girls and their rights, we unite to acknowledge and advocate for the different range of rights that belong to every girl. It’s also a moment for us to consider the global challenges they face, from barriers to education and healthcare to the prevalence of gender-based violence and discrimination. Together, we must work towards a future where every girl can thrive in a world free from fear, with access to the opportunities she deserves.”
She continued, saying:
“Being a girl should never dictate what you’re capable of, where you can go, or who you can become. However, for millions of girls worldwide, this is still a harsh reality. Too many are held back, confronted by severe challenges that strip them of their rights, limit their options, and narrow their futures. The future is undoubtedly female, and it begins by empowering girls today to overcome these barriers and reach their full potential.”
Arabinrin Aderonke added,
“We believe that when girls have access to education, good health, and opportunities for empowerment, they can break the cycle of poverty and become leaders within their communities. This not only reduces gender inequality but also helps level the playing field across various sectors, including politics, STEM, and beyond. To mark the occasion, FAME Foundation, in partnership with Laureus Sport for Good, is organizing a Girl Child Workshop, where young girls from public schools will learn about their rights, develop life skills, and understand the importance of education as a foundation for their future.
She concluded with a call to action for the government, civil society organizations, and stakeholders, urging the public to engage in efforts to empower young girls in their communities. This can be achieved by sponsoring and organizing programs focused on skill development and advocating for girls’ education.
