FAME foundation was established to solicit, encourage and advance the social, emotional and economic wellbeing of women and girls as well as formulate programmes within the framework of national development plan with a view to enhancing the participation of women and advocate for gender parity in the society.
FAME foundation firmly believe that the entire nation, businesses, communities and groups can benefit from the implementation of programs and policies that adopt the notion of women empowerment.
FAME Foundation, in partnership with Laureus Sport for Good, hosted its monthly Life Skills Development through Sport session as part of the PLAY it DREAM it initiative. The event took place on October 17, 2024, at LEA Primary School, Utako with 70 participants, including 50 girls and 20 boys who benefitted from the project.
The session kicked off with Coach Raphael Omale leading the sports segment focused on teamwork, communication, and stability. His clear and concise instructions set a positive tone, creating an inclusive environment where every participant felt welcomed and encouraged to join in. The drills were carefully designed to enhance individual skills, such as dribbling and passing, while also highlighting the importance of collaboration and support among teammates.
Throughout the session, Coach Omale emphasized the significance of stability in both the physical and mental aspects of the game. He incorporated exercises that improved balance and coordination, helping participants understand how these skills contribute to overall performance. Additionally, he encouraged the children to support one another, creating an atmosphere where they could celebrate successes and learn from mistakes together.
Following the sports activities, Coach Blessing Nweke began mentorship session, centered on “Goal Setting and Achievement.”
This session aimed to instill a sense of purpose and direction in the participants, guiding them on how to turn their dreams into actionable plans. Coach Blessing began by explaining the significance of setting realistic and attainable goals, emphasizing the difference between short-term and long-term goals. She illustrated how long-term goals represent broader aspirations, while short-term goals serve as the stepping stones that make those larger ambitions achievable.
The children were encouraged to identify specific actions, milestones, and timelines needed to reach both their short-term and long-term goals. This hands-on exercise allowed them to visualize their aspirations clearly, reinforcing the idea that success is a journey requiring thoughtful planning and dedication.
Throughout the mentorship session, Coach Blessing emphasized the values of persistence and resilience. She shared personal stories about her journey, discussing the setbacks she faced and how she overcame them. Her stories served as powerful examples, demonstrating that perseverance is crucial when pursuing one’s goals. She also introduced motivational quotes and affirmations that resonated with the children, encouraging them to adopt a positive mindset as they work toward their aspirations.
The interactive nature of this session encouraged participants to engage fully. They were invited to ask questions, share their own experiences, and express any doubts they had about goal-setting. This open dialogue fostered a supportive atmosphere where they could learn from one another’s insights and encouragement.
Many children found comfort in realizing that they were not alone in their struggles, and they began to form connections with their peers as they shared their aspirations.
The children left the session with a renewed sense of determination, understanding that progress often comes from consistent, smaller efforts rather than grand gestures. The sense of team spirit built during the session also inspired them to support one another in their journeys, reinforcing the community aspect of the program.
