FAME Foundation, in collaboration with Laureus Sport for Good, held its Life Skills Development Session through Sports on October 31, 2024, as part of their Play it Dream it initiative. The event took place at L.E.A Primary School, Utako, and featured a total of 70 children.
The first session began with light exercises led by Omale Raphael, a PD Coach. These exercises were designed to elevate the participants’ mood and prepare them for the various sporting activities planned for the day. Coach Omale guided the participants through a series of movements, incorporating stretches and simple aerobic routines that encouraged everyone to participate.
As the children followed along, they not only focused on their physical well-being but also experienced a sense of unity. Coach Omale emphasized the importance of teamwork and cooperation, creating an atmosphere where participants supported one another. His clear instructions and motivating approach kept the energy high, making the warm-up both enjoyable and effective.
This engaging start not only energized the participants but also set a positive tone for the rest of the day’s activities, promoting a spirit of collaboration that would carry through the subsequent sessions.
Following the sports activities, Ms. Gloria Jankat held a mentorship session focused on time management and task prioritization. She began by engaging the participants in a discussion about the importance of identifying priorities and guiding them to differentiate between urgent and important tasks. Through interactive examples, she illustrated how these concepts apply to their daily lives.
Using classroom timetables as a visual aid, Ms. Jankat demonstrated how to break down larger tasks into smaller, manageable steps. This approach allowed the children to see how organizing their responsibilities could lead to more effective decision-making. She encouraged them to think about their daily schedules, helping them recognize how to allocate time for schoolwork, sports, and personal interests.
The session also covered strategies for balancing various aspects of life. Ms. Jankat provided tips on setting realistic goals and creating a routine that accommodates both academic and extracurricular commitments. She emphasized the importance of maintaining well-being, discussing how to avoid burnout by incorporating downtime and self-care into their schedules.
As the event drew to a close, participants had an interactive discussion where they shared their insights and reflections on the day’s lessons. This encouraged the children to express what they had learned about time management, task prioritization, and balancing various aspects of their lives. Many shared personal instances about their experiences with juggling schoolwork, sports, and leisure activities, fostering a sense of community and mutual support.
