Every year, the world celebrates the International Day of Education, a day that reminds us of how important learning is for building better lives and stronger communities. It’s a chance to reflect on how education helps people grow and how it shapes the future of our societies.
This year’s theme, “AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation,” focuses on how technology is changing the way we learn and work. While artificial intelligence (AI) offers amazing opportunities, it also raises questions about how we can ensure people remain at the center of decision-making. The theme encourages us to use AI to improve education while protecting creativity, critical thinking, and the unique qualities that make us human.
FAME Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in Abuja, remains dedicated to promoting access to quality education for children, adolescents, and adults, regardless of their background or region.
Speaking to the press, Arabinrin Aderonke Atoyebi, Executive Director, FAME Foundation, underscored the transformative power of education, saying,
“Education is key. It is not only a fundamental human right but also a driving force for social progress and equality. On this International Day of Education, I celebrate the resilience and determination of learners across the globe. FAME Foundation also renews its commitment to breaking down every barrier that stands in the way of access to education, ensuring that no one is left behind.”
She elaborated further, stating,
“As computer systems and AI is taking over our world, the line between human decisions and machine actions is getting harder to see. This makes it important to think about how we can protect and improve our ability to make choices and stay in control in this fast-changing technological age.”
Arabinrin Aderonke also remarked,
“Education is important for building a fairer and more just world. It gives children a way out of poverty and a chance for a brighter future. I cannot stress this enough. No child belongs on the streets. No child should be hawking during school hours. Parents need to take responsibility. But beyond that, how are we ensuring education reaches grassroots communities, IDP camps, and those who need it the most? These are the questions we must answer.”
She concluded by urging governments, stakeholders, and all involved to prioritize investments in education and support initiatives that ensure everyone has access to quality education.
In addition to its efforts, FAME Foundation is happy to collaborate with international organizations, governments, and other non-profits to raise awareness about the role education plays in driving progress toward the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
