FAME foundation was established to solicit, encourage and advance the social, emotional and economic wellbeing of women and girls as well as formulate programmes within the framework of national development plan with a view to enhancing the participation of women and advocate for gender parity in the society.
FAME foundation firmly believe that the entire nation, businesses, communities and groups can benefit from the implementation of programs and policies that adopt the notion of women empowerment.
HerSTEM Initiative aimed at creating opportunities and space for women and girls with disabilities in STEM by equipping them with knowledge and skills in STEM for Six months.
FAME Foundation is currently training 40 women and girls with disabilities with STEM skills and knowledge. These will empower them to compete favorably with their contemporaries, have better chances at employment, thereby reducing poverty, gender-based violence and improving their mental and financial well-being.
The Federal Ministry of Science and Technology showed their support for this initiative by the donation of 10 Desktop computers and an additional 5 Desktop Computers from the Raw Materials and Development Council to help facilitate the training in fulfillment of the pledge made during the HerSTEM Initiative Flag-off Ceremony held on the 23rd of April.
Mrs. Valerie Ehimatie, the representative of the Director-General, RMRDC, stated during the handing over of the donations that the Ministry is fully in support of the HerSTEM project, which is aimed at giving back to the special people in our society.
She encouraged training participants to make good use of this opportunity they have been given and gain as much to help better their lives. “Nothing should limit you. Whatever you find passion in doing, keep doing it and give all your best”, she said.
She likewise urges the participants to visit the Resource Center at the Council, as this might inspire and encourage them to discover solutions to some of the technical issues faced in the world today.
Ms. Aderonke Bello, Executive Director, FAME FOUNDATION concluded by appreciating the Ministry for their donation.
“ I must say this is very encouraging and will help us remain focus and steadfast in our service to humanity. I am assuring the Ministry that these donated desktop computers will be channeled at the designated cause and not be misused. Thank you very much and God bless you” she said.
