ABOUT ROLE
We are looking for a confident researcher and self-motivated problem solver who enjoys working with a range of people. You will be part of a small team, with the key role of supervising our research and knowledge products from early conceptual and planning stages through to project completion and evaluation. You will also manage our periodic conferences, seminars and introduce new research and knowledge products. You will be confident and experienced in research funding applications, supervising others to conduct research, and able to produce research and knowledge outputs yourself.
Develop and plan research and knowledge projects and products
Identify and apply for research and knowledge related funding and grants
Develop grant proposals and assist in grant completion and submission processes
Perform day-to-day supervision of external researchers for assigned projects and ensure deadlines are met
Act as primary contact for research and knowledge production
Maintain a research and knowledge database
Coordinate with management in budget preparation and expense control activities
Ensure our work is participatory, including working with peer researchers and valuing the importance of communicating with different audiences
Making conference/webinar presentations
Keeping up-to-date with research/policy developments in the intersection of gender, media, human rights defenders and other areas relevant to the work of AWiM

Prior experience – essential
Postgraduate degree in a social sciences subject OR 2+ years of professional experience in a relevant capacity
Experience in conducting social research in a university, think tank, charity or consultancy
Experience in designing qualitative and quantitative research tools
Experience in quantitative and qualitative statistical data analysis, including large existing datasets, using Excel and/or SPSS
Experience in conducting and organising qualitative fieldwork
Experience in conducting qualitative analysis using Excel, SPSS, NVivoor any other statistical package
Experience of having conducted robust desktop research and knowledge of a range of research methodologies and data analysis
Evidence of ability to grasp complex concepts and debates quickly and to engage with these effectively through research
Evidence of having worked in group settings and/or as part of a cross-organisational or inter-organisational team
Ability to communicate effectively – in writing and in person – about research findings and complex issues to a wide range of audiences
Evidence of having delivered or contributed to the delivery of high-quality social research outputs prior experience – desirable
Proficiency in an additional language (e.g., French, Arabic, Portuguese)
