FAME foundation was established to solicit, encourage and advance the social, emotional and economic wellbeing of women and girls as well as formulate programmes within the framework of national development plan with a view to enhancing the participation of women and advocate for gender parity in the society.
FAME foundation firmly believe that the entire nation, businesses, communities and groups can benefit from the implementation of programs and policies that adopt the notion of women empowerment.
FAME Foundation, in partnership with Laureus Sport for Good, organized the Child Rights and Parenting Outreach under the PLAY it DREAM it initiative. This outreach was held on August 17, 2024, and engaged 80 beneficiaries, 50 women and 30 girls from New Kuchingoro, IDP Camp, Games Village, Abuja.
The program aimed to educate women and girls about accessing education, underscoring the significance of providing equal learning opportunities for girls and fostering a supportive environment for their academic and personal growth.
Ms. Linda Raphael Bassey led an impactful session on the role of providing educational access to women and girls in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps. During her session, she elaborated on how education can alter life trajectories by equipping individuals with essential skills to overcome adversity and create better futures for themselves and their families.
She explained that education is not just a means of acquiring knowledge, but a powerful catalyst for personal and community transformation. By providing access to education, women and girls in IDP camps can develop skills that enhance their employability and economic independence. This, in turn, contributes to their ability to secure better opportunities and improve their living conditions.
Ms. Bassey emphasized that, despite the constraints of limited resources in IDP camps, education remains a powerful tool for personal development. She highlighted its role in building skills, enhancing self-confidence, and fostering resilience among women and girls facing displacement. She shared stories and examples of how education has empowered people to rise above their circumstances, illustrating its impact on personal growth and community development.
Her session underscored the transformative power of education in breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering individuals to overcome their challenging circumstances.
Additionally, Ms. Bassey urged parents to participate in their children’s educational journey actively. She encouraged them to support their children’s learning and exploration of different interests, reinforcing the idea that parental involvement can enhance academic outcomes and motivate children to pursue their goals with determination and optimism. The session featured a question-and-answer segment, giving women and girls the chance to dive deeper into education access issues.
The event transitioned into a lively and interactive activity led by Ms. Swat Teku. The activity, titled “Guess and Eat,” was designed to blend learning with enjoyment.
During “Guess and Eat,” participants eagerly joined in to test their knowledge and have some fun. The game involved identifying images of notable historical figures in Nigeria and various fruits, which were displayed on a screen. Each correct identification earned participants a reward of grilled chicken, adding a delicious incentive to the challenge.
The game was enjoyed by the women and girls from the IDP camp, who enthusiastically participated, displaying their knowledge and quick thinking. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as participants cheered each other on and celebrated each correct answer with applause and laughter.
The event concluded with everyone leaving with smiles, having enjoyed a rewarding experience that combined learning, interaction, and a shared sense of joy.
