FAME foundation was established to solicit, encourage and advance the social, emotional and economic wellbeing of women and girls as well as formulate programmes within the framework of national development plan with a view to enhancing the participation of women and advocate for gender parity in the society.
FAME foundation firmly believe that the entire nation, businesses, communities and groups can benefit from the implementation of programs and policies that adopt the notion of women empowerment.
FAME Foundation, in collaboration with Laureus Sport for Good, organized its August Boot Camp under the PLAY it DREAM it initiative on August 18, 2024, at the Area 3 Football Pitch in Garki, Abuja.
This event gathered 72 children, including 50 girls and 22 boys from the New Kuchingoro IDP camp, to harness the transformative power of sports. The boot camp aimed to promote well-being, enhance educational opportunities, and foster gender equality through sports activities.
The sporting sessions, expertly led by Ms. Inyene Idiong and Ms. Exploit Ofem, included engaging activities like linear cone jumps and tug-of-war. Linear cone jumps required participants to leap from one cone to the next in rapid succession, enhancing their agility, coordination, and spatial awareness. This exercise also taught them about focus and precision, as they had to execute each jump with accuracy and control.
Tug-of-war was a particularly impactful activity, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and strategy. Children were divided into two teams, each pulling on opposite ends of a rope. This exercise was not just about physical strength; it required the teams to communicate effectively, coordinate their efforts, and adjust their strategies based on the opponent’s actions. The game also provided opportunities for leadership development, as children took turns guiding and motivating their teammates, making quick decisions to gain an advantage.
These activities were designed to impart life lessons, such as the value of fair play and how to handle both victories and defeats with grace.
Following these exercises, the children engaged in a football match that allowed them to apply their teamwork skills in a different setting, further enhancing their coordination, communication, and sportsmanship.
Ms. Blessing Egbe, our guest speaker, led an interactive session focused on Politeness and Manners. She engaged the children in a discussion about respectful communication and appropriate greetings for various times of the day, highlighting the importance of showing respect to elders.
During the session, Ms. Egbe introduced five ways to demonstrate politeness: saying “Please,” “Excuse Me,” “Thank You,” “Sorry,” and “Pardon Me.”
To reinforce these concepts, she concluded the session with a lively and memorable rhyme called “Five Magic Words.” This cheerful rhyme not only helped the children remember these manners but also brought smiles to their faces and promoted a deeper understanding of polite interactions.
Following the manners session, the children participated in an interactive question-and-answer activity that encouraged peer learning.
This segment allowed them to ask and answer questions on various topics, promoting an environment of shared knowledge and mutual learning. The interactive nature of the session made it engaging and educational, as the children exchanged insights and experiences in a fun manner.
The event wrapped up with an exciting game called “Guess and Eat.”
In this game, participants were presented with pictures of animals and various sports and had to quickly identify them. Each correct answer earned the children a delicious prize of grilled chicken. The game was filled with enthusiasm and cheers, as children eagerly showcased their knowledge and enjoyed the tasty rewards. The lively atmosphere of
“Guess and Eat” created a joyful ending to the day’s activities.
By the end of the day, the children were beaming with happiness. They had enjoyed a range of stimulating challenges and activities, culminating in a delightful meal. The combination of learning, fun, and good food made for a memorable and impactful experience, leaving every child with positive memories and valuable lessons.
