FAME Foundation Sponsors KOMSFEST 2026 in Taraba State Through Dance for Good Initiative
FAME Foundation, through its Dance for Good Initiative, sponsored KOMSFEST 2026, a dance-focused youth festival held in Taraba State, Nigeria, from April 29 to May 3, 2026.
The festival was organised by the KOMS Community (King of My Style) under the theme “CHANGEMAKERS”. It brought together over 500 young people, including secondary school students, dancers, artists, and community members from Taraba and surrounding states in North-Eastern Nigeria.
KOMSFEST 2026 was structured as a five-day programme combining dance, education, and community engagement. The festival opened on April 29 with an Opening Ceremony and World Dance Day celebration. On April 30, participants took part in freestyle dance workshops and a battle strategy session designed to prepare competitors for the main event.
On May 1, the Kreative Konference was held, featuring sessions on financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and creative leadership for young people. On May 2, participants attended a pre-battle workshop and community discussion focused on preparing for the final competition and strengthening community connections. The festival concluded on May 3 with the King of My Style Open Style Battle and closing ceremony.
The King of My Style Battle featured Open Style categories for both male and female dancers. The competition showcased styles including Afro, Hip Hop, Krump, and Open Style. Patrick Dennis emerged as the winner of the male category, while Christabel Ebube Azumki won the female category.
The festival recorded participation from over 500 young people, including secondary school students and youth from Adamawa, Gombe, Taraba, Plateau, and surrounding local government areas.
KOMSFEST 2026 demonstrated the role of dance as more than performance, showing how structured creative platforms can support education, leadership development, and youth engagement. The festival created space for young people to develop skills, build confidence, and connect with others across different communities in Northern Nigeria.
The partnership between FAME Foundation and KOMS Community reflects a shared commitment to using dance as a tool for empowerment, expression, and youth development, particularly for girls and young people in underserved communities.
